Practical

We have chosen to work with clay and objects in our animation. Plasticine, oil-based clay is most commonly used in animation. Modelling clay must be used for it's ability to remain soft and to be continuously remoulded. Clay that is used for art such as sculpture is generally water based and dries out.

Aspects we need to consider for production are things such as the way in which clay absorbs light. Some surfaces also show marks from where clay had been placed; use of lighting, camera angles or a particular type of surface may reduce this being seen. Also, hard wooden and metal surfaces tend to show reflections of the objects and the clay; although, this may be an aspect that we would like to explore further and use in terms of aesthetics or for effect.
